Trip To Nelson

Today we drove to Nelson, BC and what a day for a drive! In order to get to Nelson from the east shore of Kootenay Lake, one must take the ferry.  Well, you could drive to Creston, drive over the Kootenay Pass and then onto Nelson. But the ferry route is much quicker for us and much more scenic!

The first picture in the album is Kokanee Glacier as seen from Highway 3A on the way to the ferry landing at Kootenay Bay.  From there are views from the Osprey Ferry while crossing Kootenay Lake and then the half hour drive to Nelson from the Balfour ferry landing.

Returning home we encountered a couple at the Balfour ferry landing who had just landed a 16 lb 2 oz Dolly - a beautiful fish!!  The ferry landing at Balfour is such an interesting place to wait until the ferry comes in.  Apparently now you can even get a hair cut at the Barber Saloon!!  Or if your hair is already neat and trim, you can feed the ducks or admire the views as the young girls were on the beach.

The sun was getting ready to call it day and bounced off the snowy peaks of the Purcell Mountains as we crossed back over Kootenay Lake to Kootenay Bay.  The last picture is from Highway 3A, back on the eastern shore of Kootenay Lake.
